I keep reading or seeing comments about online reviewers’ getting the product for free. Everything from $10 Aukey power bricks to $1,000 mattresses. What the hell. How do people get hooked up with this stuff.
I read up on the Amazon Vine program, but that is extremely selective from what I’ve seen. Anything else out there?

I think the folks who get products to review for free are those who do a lot of purchasing from Amazon. Not sure though.
I could care less about getting free things to review. It isn’t worth the hassle.
The best thing to do, if you purchase lots of things, is to start your own social media career in reviewing products.

Aukey has a referral program, as do a lot of its ghost sister companies (ANNT lights, for example) and they are totally willing to send you stuff for good reviews...or were until Amazon starting cracking down on that kind of thing.

I’m on snagshout, which gave me quite a bit of free stuff I keep in the gift closet for last second items in exchange for a review. According to the site I’ve “saved” $1,118.02
However a relatively recent terms and service or whatever agreement with Amazon changed that process so that no longer happens. But you can still check it out, they have loads of deals...just not as much free stuff anymore

Start podcasting I got a book, some pizzas, and a stage one Cobb setup for free. (-minus all the cost and time and effort and I have put into the podcast)

I get offered free stuff all the time (in the hopes that I will mention it on my podcast) but so far I have turned it all down.

implicit in a lot of these things is the expectation that you’ll give an unflinchingly good review. and if a good review isn’t honest, what good is it?

Is it because the products aren’t appealing to you or that your podcasts will remain free of product placement?

No one has offered me anything which would make sense for me to talk about on the podcast. If there was a product which made sense, I’d consider it (and I would also disclose that it was a freebie).
